MIDSUMMER 2007

AT BALBOA PARK, SAN DIEGO

A large crowd celebrated Midsummer in Balboa Park, under palms and cedars. A cool ocean breeze made the afternoon very pleasant, and everybody had a great time. Swedish meatballs and coffeebread were served at the Swedish cottage.  Youngsters from all the Scandinavian cottages and the International Folkdancers of Balboa Park performed traditional Swedish dances. The Swedish Choir of San Diego sang Swedish summer songs, such as Uti vår hage där växa blå bär; Den blomstertid nu kommer and many others. After the performances, everybody danced ring dances around the Maypole, to the tunes and words of Små grodorna, små grodorna; Här är karusellen, som ska gå till kvällen, and other traditional Swedish songs.
